Quartz
Characteristics Quartz is an engineered product, consisting of aggregated natural stones, polymers, and other pigments. Polymer is used as a combined agent, and pigment is added for coloration. Quartz is very durable and impervious due to the bound materials. With modern technology, vast aesthetic designs are introduced into the market, ranging from natural looks to artistic strokes. Care and Maintenance Quartz is maintenance free, scratch, chemical and heat resistant, and does not require sealing or polishing. Cleaning is simple, just wipe off the spills with lukewarm water or mild soapy water. NEVER use acidic and abrasive powder or detergent, and scrub to clean the surface. Don't cut directly on quartz surface; the hard counter surface may dull the knives. Marble
Characteristics Marble is a sparkling natural stone form of limestone. It is formed when calcium from shells and bones of prehistoric life forms combines with carbon dioxide from water. Marble is known for its sophisticated veining and predominant white to grey colors. It is a delicately beautiful stone, easy to work with, and soft to the touch. Marble is the most porous stone among granite and slate. It scratches, etches, and absorbs spills easily due to its highly fragile irregular veining. It will pit in rain unless properly sealed and crumble readily when exposed to moisture. Although marble is heatproof, it can be stained and damaged by acids. Sealing is a must and maintenance is necessary for high traffic areas and kitchens when come to prolong its beauty. Care and Maintenance Marble is a chef’s favorite top. It is smooth to the touch. Sealing it at least once a year is necessary to maintaining marble's natural beauty. Clean all spills immediately with lukewarm, mild soapy water. NEVER use bleach, acidic and abrasive powder, or detergent, and scrub to clean the surface. Untended spills and chemicals may leave dull spots eventually. Always use a cutting board. |

There are over 100 selections in the market due to its varying feldspar content. Granite surface polishes well, but can be honed, riven, sanded, tumbled, aged or bush-hammered. It is not sensitive to heat. Granite can be polished to a very smooth, almost mirror-like finish.
